Dark Horse Comics started in 1986 by founder Mike Richardson. Mike was the owner of comic book stores around Portland, Oregon and pooled his profits from those stores into Dark Horse Comics. The first series was "Dark Horse Presents.".
Today, Dark Horse Comics is recognized as the largest American based independent comic publisher. Popular titles include Terminator, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sin City and many more. Top artists and creators joined forces with Dark Horse to create new titles and characters, and helped mold the future of comics. Frank Miller, Paul Chadwick and Mike Mignola are some of the early contributors.
