Westerns Depicted in Comic Books
Early issues of comic books dealt heavily with western themed stories - many coming from the movies with stars like Roy Rogers, Gunsmoke and of course, The Lone Ranger. The golden age of comics (1950's) saw quite a few titles and runs, especially from publishers like Gold Key, Dell and Atlas. However, I think the true western genre in comics, exploded during the silver age, with Two Gun Kid, The Rawhide Kid and Kid Colt Outlaw, as well as Jonah Hex. These titles started western stories in a new light, often with new characters and stories. Modern issues of these same titles often have a much different storyline, but you can't argue with the purity in heart and characters of the silver comics from Marvel and DC Comics |
